Tomboy Barred From Club in Malaysia

Image
All Julia (not her real name) wanted to do last Saturday was to have good, clean, fun with her friends at a club. Instead, that was the snub she got from the hostesses. The place they chose that night was a club called Cynna, one of the trendiest spots at the Asian Heritage Row in Jalan Yap Ah Sak. The 30-year-old woman was with four friends at 11. On another article which carries the feedback from the manager it said:- In my (Zul Arshad, Manager on Duty) opinion, we can’t have these people because other patrons would feel intimidated by their behaviour. “We are not discriminating against them but this is how we take care of our image. It’s not good for the club. But gay people are allowed to work here,” he said.

More Web 2.0

SOAP (Simple Object Access Protocol) REST (Representational State Transfer) AJAX (Javascript and XML) NNTP, the Network News Protocol "Ajax isn't a technology. It's really several technologies, each flourishing in its own right, coming together in powerful new ways. Ajax incorporates: * standards-based presentation using XHTML and CSS; * dynamic display and interaction using the Document Object Model; * data interchange and manipulation using XML and XSLT; * asynchronous data retrieval using XMLHttpRequest; * and JavaScript binding everything together." Core Competencies of Web 2.0 Companies In exploring the seven principles above, we've highlighted some of the principal features of Web 2.0. Each of the examples we've explored demonstrates one or more of those key principles, but may miss others. Let's close, therefore, by summarizing what we believe to be the core competencies of Web 2.0 companies: * Services, not packaged software, with cost-effectiv

Web 2.0 Explained

Somehow or rather i just have to post this up. Its good reading for some and its informational for some. frankly i just need to help adjust to the term web 2.0 coz for some nerdy person like me (definition of partial computer geek : someone who lives, breathes and sleeps books or computers. ) So what is web two o? o'reilly sets some simple conversions between the 1.0 era to the 2.0 era of web development. Web 1.0 Web 2.0 DoubleClick --> Google AdSense Ofoto --> Flickr Akamai --> BitTorrent mp3.com --> Napster Britannica Online --> Wikipedia personal websites --> blogging evite --> upcoming.org and EVDB domain name speculation --> search engine optimization page views --> cost per click screen scraping --> web services publishing --> participation CMS --> wikis directories (taxonomy) --> tagging ("folksonomy") sti

Migration

I tried migrating my scripts to php5 this morning.. somehow it kept giving me errors such as undefine variable becuase i am using an include_once function. i had all these errors as if the file wasn't included at all.... after hours of researching......... the error was becuase it was "< ?" opening instead of "< ? php" . lol what a worthwhile effort. i just absolutely love php. hahaha

PHP5 Whats New?

http://www.devshed.com/c/a/PHP/Whats-New-in-PHP-5/ The long anticipated PHP 5 release comes with a slew of new features aimed at simplifying development with PHP. With PHP 5 comes the introduction of exception handling , the Standard PHP Library (SPL) , enhanced support for XML SimpleXML , reflection, and quite a few enhancements to the object oriented features of the language. PHP 5 also offers a sizable list of new functions, many of which will not be covered in this article but are available in the manual. PHP 5 offers some big enhancements to its ability to interact with databases. The most significant addition is the embedded SQLite database, a quick, lightweight database engine made specifically for embedded applications. This means there is no RDBMS process running on the server; SQLite reads and writes directly to files on disk. This results in significantly lower memory overhead when the database is not being used, but major performance problems arise if the system is used

Oil Depletion

Oil depletion will hit us soon and hard. Governments are ignoring the problem. Their lack of action will make the coming disruption of the world's economy much worse than it needs to be. It is too late to avoid hardship, even in rich North America. The longer we avoid facing up to the approaching conditions, the greater the hardship will be. Learn more about the consequences of oil and gas depletion. The next oil crunch will not be so temporary. Our analysis of the discovery and production of oil fields around the world suggests that within the next decade, the supply of conventional oil will be unable to keep up with demand. This conclusion contradicts the picture one gets from oil industry reports, which boasted of 1,020 billion barrels of oil (Gbo) in "Proved" reserves at the start of 1998. Dividing that figure by the current production rate of about 23.6 Gbo a year might suggest that crude oil could remain plentiful and cheap for 43 more years—probably longer, becau

Ha Ha And I Thought Malaysia Was Bad

By Oh No They're Back!!! January 26, 2007 04:49 PM | Link to this What a way to begin the year? First, our meathead governor whines abouts drivers going too fast. Now we’re hearing about banning cell phones for teens. And now this clown wants to pass a law governing MySpace. Senator Sir, in case you didn’t know there is no present way any Internet site can truthfully ascertain the age of its visitors. Its Cyberspace. Why don’t you clowns get a life and begin introducing meaningful bills that have some teeth and can really get this state moving in the right direction? How about giving parents school vouchers, ending the car tag tax, ending property taxes, getting rid of the income tax, etc., etc., etc., Quit Meddling and Start Legislating.

Senator wants restrictions on social networking sites

Senator wants restrictions on social networking sites By Sonji Jacobs | Friday, January 26, 2007, 01:53 PM The Atlanta Journal-Constitution A Georgia senator worried about the safety of young teenagers who log on to Internet social networking sites such as MySpace.com and FaceBook.com has proposed a bill that would force such companies to tighten up their access to minors. The measure would make it illegal for the owner or operator of a social networking Web site to allow minors to create or maintain a Web page without parental permission. Senate Bill 59 also would force MySpace.com and FaceBook.com to allow parents or guardians to have access to their children’s Web pages at all times. Sen. Cecil Staton (R-Macon), the bill’s sponsor, said that while he believes parents should be actively involved and aware of their children’s activities, the social networking companies also should be held accountable for the safety of minors. “I would reject the argument that these companies have no r

Disempowering Girls as Users of Technology

Tuesday 28th November 2006 7:22 am Category: Unexpected Justine Cassell: Disempowering Girls as Users of Technology Girls’ use of technology threatens the established social order. That’s the real reason behind the fear of girls using social networking sites. Throughout US history, each time women have become the most frequent users of a popular and brand new communication technology, narratives emerge in the mass media and eventually in the popular psyche about the dangers awaiting women who use technology alone. The story is a familiar one . . . to us, and to our grandparents. Vulnerable (usually young) women, unaware of the dangers of a new technology, fall victim to harassment and assault from sexual predators lurking on the wire. This same exact story was told about the telegraph and the telephone, and today it is being told about the Internet and social networking sites like MySpace. If the vulnerability of young women were backed up by statistics about their victimization, tha

Becoming only the sixth professional male athlete from one of the four major US sports – basketball, baseball, football and hockey – to openly discuss his homosexuality, John Amaechi has been named a national spokesperson for a Human Rights Campaign (HRC) project aimed at helping LGBT people come out and live openly gay. The 36-year-old, who spent five seasons with four teams before retiring from sport three years ago, is now a TV personality in England. His announcement comes in advance of the release of his book Man In The Middle, in which he chronicles his NBA career and directly addresses the travails of being a closeted professional athlete. Like Amaechi, the other five male professional athletes – football players David Kopay, Esera Tuaolo and Roy Simmons, and baseball players Billy Bean and the late Glenn Burke – came out after their careers ended. Kopay was the first retired athlete to come out in 1977 with his book, The David Kopay Story. Other well-known gay male athletes are

Walking Into The Light

Image
How do you tell yourself to not go to the light, when its just calling upon you ever so strongly.. keke. :) i have seen the light before and it draws you because all of a sudden you feel as if nothing else in the world matters .. you may think a lot before you die on how you would split your wealth and how your death would affect those you love and around you but once you see the light it gives you the feeling of total relaxation. it may seem like a long time but in total fact its only 1-2 seconds in the real time. have you ever thought about life after death? is there such a thing?
