World Poverty

Why is there world poverty? Is it true that the world isn’t producing enough food to feed the world? What has gone wrong? We have so much agricultural land and yet we aren’t  producing enough food? What is the world coming too? Is money all we think about? “ Inequality is increasing around the world while the world appears to globalize. Even the wealthiest nation has the largest gap between rich and poor compared to other developed nations. In many cases, international politics and various interests have led to a diversion of available resources from domestic needs to western markets. Historically, politics and power play by the elite leaders and rulers have increased poverty and dependency. These have often manifested themselves in wars, hot and cold, which have often been trade- and resource-related. Mercantilist practices, while presented as free trade, still happen today. Poverty is therefore not just an economic issue, it is also an issue of political economics”

Meet Zuse, the dot matrix toaster (Crave)

Image
Take me to your toaster. (Credit: Inseq design) Dot matrix printers were never very good at printing. They were loud, large, and produced lousy results. Plus you had to pull off that threaded edge with all the holes. Come to think of it, perhaps those annoying strips of holey paper ... View article...

My First Week

The end of today would mark the end of my first week here at work in Australia. Landed on the 8 th of June, I’ve come quite a long way now since I left university back in Melbourne in 2002. Since then I’ve worked in Malaysia, Singapore and now Australia. Wow, am amazed with myself, 7 years isn’t a very long time in the world of the working force. I wonder if I would continue being the web developer that I am still now. Where am I heading too in the next years to come? India perhaps or even the enigmatic Silicon Valley where it all started.

That Facebook Thingy

Has the facebook fade off your to do list?  Do you now just logon to check anyone sent you a message or just logging in to send some growing gifts or perhaps just to earn 10k from the Friends for sale app. I see less and less of my friends installing new apps, where have all the apps gone. Funny how when u think of it and bear also in mind that you might be in the millions out there that has worn out that facebook need. Read  This   Listen to this

FreeBSD vs Linux vs Windows

Came across this very interesting information in regards to the comparison between FreeBSD against Linux in terms of performance, memory and a few other key critical elements of a good platform. Kinda look as if the editor seems too much prefer FreeBSD which is better in a lot of areas.   Click Link Here

3 Year Phone Contracts

The rest of the world offers iPhone plans equivalent or better than the announced US plan with AT&T. But not Rogers! Our homegrown telco is keeping the long tradition of screwing Canadians for mobile service alive and well. Up here in Canada we get a gargantuan 3-year contract . Two years is bad enough but three is a lifetime in mobile technology.   Read More Here

Top 10 Most Liveable Cities

What is the top 10 most livable cities in the world?   Monocle has given us a list and it seems that London can't even squeeze its way anywhere above the top 20 let alone top 10. Tokyo has moved a notch upwards and stands at number #3. Munich dropped to 2nd place when Copenhagen the capital of Denmark has risen above all to take the top spot. The Vikings are back on a leap frogging place from no where to number #7 and #5. Perhaps its time to pay them Vikings a visit.  Sydney which once stood at the 10th most liveable place has dropped to 11th due to the rising ridiculous property prices as well as one of the most clogged up streets that is housed by bad public transport. Much can be said but Monocle points out that pretty doesn't mean its fantastic. I wonder how true is that?   The Final List 1. Copenhagen 2. Munich 3. Tokyo 4. Zurich 5. Helsinki 6. Vienna 7. Stockholm 8. Vancouver 9. Melbourne 10. Paris
